Why do we need to develop Sustainably?

Why is it so important today to develop Sustainably?

If we have 100 buildings in India in 2030, today we have in 2020, only 30 percent of those buildings. 

That is the rate at which we are growing. We are at a point in the global economy and global technology where we can spearhead our development in a different direction. We do not need to do what the West has done. We can follow our own principles and our own inherent wisdom but in a cutting edge and modern context such that we can show to the world that we can develop differently, we can develop sustainably.

An average human being actually spends more than 80 percent of their life inside a building, in urban areas

So it is even more important to have that thought process.  And even out of that remaining 20% time, most of it is on roads.

So if we look at our own day, how much time are we spending on a daily basis, near a water body, a river, a lake, a pond or in a forest or under a tree?

Out of our 24 hours, how much time on a daily basis are we actually spending close to nature? So 80% of the time is inside a building – whether it is a school, a home, an office. 

That building is actually an extension of our skin. It is the second layer of protection after our clothes. So if we take a desert, a mountain, and a coastal region – can we wear the same clothes in a desert that we wear in the mountain? So how can we have the same type of building in Jaipur, Manali and Chennai ?
